The Joy of YouTube
Send in a link to a YouTube clip that can illustrate some psychology with a brief description and you will be entered for a prize draw to win a fantastic (but yet to be decided) prize at Lincoln 2008. Actually, just send in the link anyway and help build up the list of PsychoToobies. Email us at info@atpconference.org.uk
The split brain work of Roger Sperry
The US author Philip K Dick is responsible for the stories behind cult classics such as Minority Report and Bladerunner. His book A Scanner Darkly was recently filmed and this YouTube clip has scenes from the film with a Radiohead soundtrack track. In the book, Dick specifically describes the work of Sperry and his associate Michael Gazzaniger in some detail. The key idea in the plot speculates on how someone will respond to having the two halves of their brain separated.

The Milgram study
The Milgram obedience study has startled students for years. Peter Gabriel recorded Milgram’s 37 which appears on his album So. In this clip it is illustrated with some soundtrack from the Milgram study and some scenes from the Stanley Kubrick film Full Metal Jacket.

Rosenhan: sane in insane places
It is reported that the Kensey Kesey, the author of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest had some contact with Rosenhan. Whether he did or not, the underlying question of both pieces of work is how we can recognise insanity. This clip is a trailer for the film version with Jack Nicholson.

The I didn’t do it kid with the “famous” glasses
This video could be used when teaching thinking patterns, cognitive dissonance, locus of control or even TA. Actually it is worth watching because it is hilarious.

Children see and children do
A very emotive video that could be used when teaching social learning theory.

The hollow face illusion
For those of you who have visited Richard Gregory’s site and seen his version of the hollow face illusion, this video is a nice addition. It has a hollow face of Richard Gregory himself, brought to you by Grandillusions who are providing a prize for the conference this tear. Phil
Little Albert
It doesn’t come much better than this. Original footage of Little Albert featuring the actual procedures that induced the fear response and including shots of John Watson and Rosalie Rayner. Don’t worry about the Spanish subtitles. Phil
Konrad Lorenz
This clip is not going to win the competition but this is a genuine and fun packed full 12 seconds of Konrad Lorenz in a canoe with his imprinted ducks. Mark
The Parts of the Brain
I might be onto a winner here. From one of my favourite cartoons Pinky and the Brain. Mark
